A Knitted Blanket of Faith: Threads That Still Hold Me

“He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” —Psalm 91:4

“The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” —Psalm 121:7–8

🧶 A Blanket That Still Brings Comfort

One summer, my grandma patiently tried to teach me how to knit. I got a couple of the basics down, but the summer went fast, and I didn’t take it up again. I don’t know if it was laziness or lack of ideas of what to knit (I didn’t need any potholders).

When I graduated from high school, my grandma had knitted me a beautiful afghan to take with me to college. It was soft, colorful, and would be with me for over 40 years. I still have it. I’m sure it isn’t perfect any more; some threads were stretched over time, and a few places might have come loose. But somehow, that blanket always brought comfort.

☀️ Faith in the Frayed Places

Faith during trials can feel like that too. Over time, we notice the loose threads and the worn spots, especially when life unravels through loss or hardship. Yet, the strength of faith isn’t in its perfection, but in the way God’s promises in suffering are woven through every season of our lives. That afghan reminds me that even when life feels frayed, His love still covers and holds us.

That’s part of the message I share in my upcoming book, that even through sorrow, God restores brokenness and tenderly knits hope in times of grief back together.

⚓ Finding Hope in a Broken World

I think the majority of us have felt pretty broken or frayed over the last month. So many evil events have occurred that it’s hard to see how we can feel hope. From school shootings to policemen losing their lives to the assassination of a Jesus-following man to a beautiful young woman being killed on her way home from her job, it affects how we see the world around us, bringing out anger, fear, and unrest.

If it were up to us, things would just go on as they are and probably get worse. But finding comfort in God reminds us He is still sovereign and working, even when the world feels dark.

➕ God, the Restorer of Broken Places

But you know, God can stitch hope into broken places. After all, He created us! Whether you have lost loved ones, experienced a broken friendship, been betrayed in your marriage, lost your job, or watched a child become a prodigal, God is in ALL those broken places.

He is the Ultimate Fixer. The Lifter of your head. The Restorer of your spirit. The Companion for the lonely. Our Greatest Hope in times of trials. He is so much more than we can imagine.

Admit you are a sinner and tell Him you are sorry. Ask Him to come into your heart, into your soul. Live by the Scriptures. Pray without ceasing. You will NEVER regret it, because you will spend eternity in heaven. And really, eternity is the one true thing we can really look forward to. The best is yet to come!

🙏 The Best Is Yet to Come

My book, coming out in the next month or so, And the Sun Came Up: A True Story of Grief and Hope, shares more of my journey of loss and how Christian encouragement for hard times carried me through. I pray it reminds families that even in the darkest nights, light still returns.
