🌸 Turning Toward the Sun: Choosing Hope Intentionally
“…Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.” – Psalm 30:5
Just like plants turn toward the sunlight, we can learn to turn our hearts toward God’s light.
Even in difficult seasons, there are gentle ways to keep facing the light.

☀️ Choosing Gratitude in Small Things
By being thankful for the small things we see around us—the quiet gifts God provides each day—we begin to notice His presence more clearly.
Gratitude doesn’t erase grief, but it softly shifts our focus.
It reminds us that even in the middle of hard things, light is still breaking through.
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” – James 1:17
🌿 Looking for Beauty Again
I recently watched an episode of When Calls the Heart where a young boy, whose father had died before he was born, longed to know him.
His mother created a scavenger hunt, leading him to places that held meaning—land his father had dreamed of building on, the stable where he worked, and people who knew him.
With each step, the boy began to see his father through the memories of others.
He found beauty in what he had once felt was missing.
Sometimes, healing comes as we begin to see beauty again—not by forgetting what was lost, but by discovering what still remains.
🌱 Faith During Slow Healing
Healing takes time.
Some wounds may never fully disappear, but through a continued relationship with Jesus—our Healer—we find strength to keep moving forward.
He meets us in the slow places.
He walks with us through every step.
Friend, don’t give up.
Grief may be one of the hardest things we carry, but life is still full of purpose and meaning when we place it in God’s hands.
And through Him, we can look forward to a hope that lasts forever.

🙏 Optional Breath Prayer
When emotions feel heavy or overwhelming, this simple breath prayer can help both children and adults gently turn back toward God:
Inhale: “God, You are my light”
Exhale: “Help me turn toward You”
Repeat slowly, allowing the words to settle your heart.
💬 A Moment for Reflection
What is one small way you can turn toward God’s light today?
What is something beautiful you have noticed recently?
Is there a memory that brings both sadness and comfort?
🎨 Children’s Activity: “Turning Toward the Sun”
Just like sunflowers turn toward the sunlight, we can learn to turn our hearts toward God’s love and hope.
What to Do:
1. Draw a Sunflower 🌻
Have the child draw a large sunflower on a piece of paper, facing the sun.
2. Add the Sun (God’s Light)
In the corner, draw a bright sun and write inside it: “God’s Love” or “God is with me”
3. Fill the Petals with Courage
On each petal, write or draw something that helps them feel better or closer to God:
Praying
Talking to someone they trust
Playing
Remembering someone they love
Reading a Bible verse
4. Strengthen the Stem
On the stem, write: “God helps me grow strong”
5. Draw Roots of Truth (Optional for older kids)
Under the ground, draw roots and write simple truths like:
“I am loved”
“I am not alone”
“God is always with me”
💬 Talk About It:
“What helps you turn toward God when you feel sad?”
“Which petal feels most important to you today?”
🌷 Gentle Reminder:
Even on cloudy days, the sun is still there… and you are still growing.
